TikTok sends your traffic into a browser the App Store cannot reach

TikTok ships its own in-app browser, like every other social app. A tap on a store link inside it can end on an empty screen — in ads, in bio links and in the comments under a creator's video.

Spark Ads · traffic campaigns · bio link · creator posts

Where it breaks

Every tap starts inside TikTok

There is no native store handoff for link-based placements. The browser opens first, and only then tries to reach the App Store.

The escape route is the hardest one here

TikTok blocks a jump to the store scheme unless a real tap triggers it. Our links show the button immediately instead of waiting on a blank screen, so the tap that the system requires is one press away.

Creator traffic is invisible in reporting

A post from a creator brings taps you never see in an ad dashboard. If they die in the browser, nothing tells you — the video looks like it underperformed.

The window is seconds long

TikTok traffic decides fast. Two seconds of blank screen is not a delay, it is the end of the session — which is why our links draw the button before attempting the jump, not after it fails.

What we measure

Of 21 taps we measured from TikTok, 86 per cent reached the store. The rest ended on the fallback button — small sample, but the pattern matches Facebook. Sample: 606 taps through our own links, 3–5 August 2026. Every link reports back when a tap fails to leave the in-app browser, so these are counted, not modelled.

What the link actually does

It reads where the tap came from and takes the route that survives there: the external browser out of Instagram and Threads, the store's own scheme where that is what works, an immediate button where the system asks for confirmation. If everything is blocked, the tap still ends on a visible button instead of a blank screen.

Nothing to install

No SDK and no changes in the app. You swap one address for another.

Your tracker stays

An attribution link can be the destination. We hand the tap over and leave your parameters alone.

You see what arrived

Each link reports when a tap failed to leave the in-app browser, so the dashboard shows delivery, not just clicks.

Questions

Does this affect TikTok ads or only organic links?

Both. Any placement that opens a link — Spark Ads, traffic campaigns, the bio link, a link in a comment — goes through the same in-app browser.

What does a person see when it fails?

An empty white screen, and nothing else. They back out and are gone. With a GoToApp link they see a button right away and one press takes them to the store.

Does it work with my attribution link?

Yes. Paste your OneLink, Branch or Adjust URL as the destination — we only get the tap out of the in-app browser and hand it over to your tracker.

What share of TikTok taps reaches the store?

In our measurements TikTok delivered 86 per cent, and four more taps arrived through the fallback button. The sample is small, but it behaves like Facebook rather than like Instagram.

Does it cover the link in the TikTok bio?

Yes, and it is the same problem there as in ads: the bio link opens in the same in-app browser.
