What one broken bio link costs

The link is free to fix and expensive to leave alone. Here is the arithmetic on the second part.

The model

Take an account with 40,000 followers posting a few times a week. Bio link taps run somewhere around 0.5 to 2% of reach for an app with a clear offer, so call it 600 taps a month, conservatively.

Of those, on our measured mix, roughly 96% arrive on iOS from inside the app. With a plain store link, essentially all of them see a blank page.

Converting that to installs

StepNumber
Bio link taps per month600
Reaching the store with a plain linkclose to none
Reaching the store with routing≈580
Install rate from a store visit25%
Installs gained≈145 per month

At a modest $2 cost per install if you were buying that traffic, the same volume costs $290 a month to replace with ads. Over a year that is $3,480 in equivalent acquisition, from a link you already have.

Why the loss is invisible

Nobody counts bio link taps that failed, because nothing counts them. Instagram shows link taps in insights, and those taps all look successful. The store shows installs, and they simply do not appear.

The gap between the two numbers is the loss, and almost nobody puts those two screens side by side.

The multiplier nobody includes

This compounds with every creator you work with, every story, every DM. A single fixed link fixes all of them at once, because they all point at the same address.

Checking your own numbers

Take your bio link taps from Instagram insights for last month. Multiply by 0.96 for the iOS share. That is roughly how many people you sent to a blank page, assuming a plain store link. It is usually a bigger number than people expect.

One link, once, fixes every placement pointing at it.
